2007 Frostbite Regatta in Wichita Kansas

CJC Race Results

The CJC novices got their first racing experience and produced some fantastic results. The girls novice 4+ placed 7th, just 20 seconds behind our experienced light 4+ and were the only novice crew under 12 minutes. They were also the only CJC 4+ to not incur any buoy penalties thanks to our novice but expert coxswain.

The 3/8 novice boys 8+ had a strong showing with a 5th place finish beating the only other junior boat in the race and a coupe of college crews. The 3/4  novice boys 4+ rowed well and  penalty free to a tie for 5th and the all novice mixed 8 (with 5 girls and 3 guys in it) finished 16th out of 24 as the only junior boat entered.

The CJC Varsity Girls had another successful racing weekend at the 2007 Frostbite Regatta. The Girls heavyweight 4+ placed second because of two buoy violations, nonetheless bringing home a silver medal. The Girls lightweight 4+ was 5th moving up in their placement from the Head of Oklahoma Race.  The Girls 8+ placed second taking home a silver medal and also improving their finish order from the Head of OK race. The Girls double was 4th behind three very strong Texas rowing center crews. The team had a wonderful warm weekend of racing. Our girls are looking forward to getting back to rowing in the spring and bringing home the GOLD!

CJC Varsity Boys 4+ made Coach Kei proud, as well as all parents watching the race, they showed the strongest and steadiest of strokes, passed not only crews in the same race but also those in the preceding race, placing second and taking home the silver medal. Way to Go!!!

CJC Novice Boys 8+ finished 5th, they showed strong strokes and managed to hold archrival Tulsa Junior behind.

Since they did not have a double race for Men’s Junior, our kids had to compete against more experienced college and club rowers. Our double crew had a little problem of steering and lost a certain amount of time for not taking the shortest path, nonetheless they finished 16th out of 20 crews, beating CSU crews again.

The Mens Junior 1x was known to be tough to us beforehand because our rowers had to race in a training boat, which is wider and much slower than racing singles. Even though, Hamilton finished 9th out of 11 crews and Sean flipped his boat but showed courage to get back in and finish the race!!

2007 Central District Championship in Oklahoma City held on October 14th and 15th.

Where else but the Head of the Oklahoma can you watch the US National Team race the top crews around the world, and pet a skunk on the same day? Oklahoma City rolled out an elaborate red carpet on this weekend, for two days of fun racing. The wind was, well, awful. But the racing was exciting and the regatta was definitely a unique, valuable experience.

Colorado Junior Crew Results:

Colorado Junior Crew women had an extremely successful weekend at this year's Head of Oklahoma. The girls raced in three events placing in the top 3 in all of them. In the Girls Youth 8+ CJC placed 3rd. In the Girls Novice Youth 4+ CJC placed 2nd. In the Girls Youth 4+ CJC placed 1st and 7th. This is the most successful regatta on the CJC record and we plan to continue to build on our success in the Frostbite Regatta in Wichita.
